He listened, remembered what she said, and gave her the uneasy feeling that he understood something her future husband had missed. Before the night was over, she walked out with him. When the groom learned what had happened, grief turned into a search for Kalen.
At the center of the novel are Ethan and Lena, two people who meet, fall in love, and slowly begin to use each other's trust against them. As their relationship changes, the story names the manipulation patterns they use and shows how those patterns work. The question follows the reader beyond the final page: which moments would you have recognized in time?

When he left her, she struggled to recover from the relationship and sought treatment. Kalen took a different lesson from what had happened: he believed he could no longer be stopped.
His next affair involved the wife of a local business owner. Once the man learned about it, people began looking for Kalen. The stories about him spread faster than he could correct them, even if he had wanted to.
One account placed him in France after he left the United States. Another claimed he knew investigators were asking questions and disappeared again before they could reach him. None of the accounts agreed on his last known address. Only a book remained: Blameveil.
